20 Questions to ask yourself as a leader

While leaders ask a lot of questions of others throughout the day they also have to ask themselves a lot of questions to stay on track. Sitting with these questions will help keep us on track. Sometimes we are going around and around on a hamster wheel and don’t know how to get off. Answering questions helps give us clarity. Leaders have to ask themselves the tough questions on a regular basis.

  1. Am I selfish? Am I greedy?
  2. Am I honest? Do I always do what I say I will do?
  3. Do I have someone who will tell me when I am wrong?
  4. When was the last time I saw a doctor?
  5. Is my family a priority?
  6. Am I a good listener?
  7. Do I value people?
  8. How would my staff describe me?
  9. Do I get things done?
  10. Do my people avoid me or look forward to seeing me?
  11. Can my people tell me the truth? Can they tell me when they have made a mistake?
  12. If people are a reflection of you and they are, What are they reflecting? 
  13. Are you mostly positive?
  14. Are you ignoring pain in your body?
  15. Are you sleeping 7 to 9 hours per day?
  16. What makes you upset? Sad?
  17. What do you want? What do you really want?
  18. Do I really care about my people?
  19. Do I dread going to work?
  20. When was the last time I took care of myself?
