This has to be one of my favorite topics. It’s so easy yet so hard. We have to make sure we know where our time goes. Often we do not.
When I do this demonstration, people are amazed at how much time they waste. We waste time due to boredom, lack of clarity of our goals and overwhelm.
I am a big believer in goals. I know for a fact in order to make the best use of our time we must have something we are working towards.
Where does your time go?
Let’s break down 168 hours.
Let’s say you sleep 8 hours a day x 7 days a week = 56 hours
You work 8 hours a day x 5 days a week = 40 hours
Commute 60 minutes roundtrip 1 hour x 5 days = 5 hours
1 hour a day to get ready x 7 days = 7 hours
4 hours for church
20 hours family time
10 hours miscellaneous
Total 142 hours
That still gives up 28 hours to do other things that might help you reach your goals or do stuff that really matter to you.
Time is the great equalizer. We all get the same amount of time. The question is what will we do with it?
Please don’t waste it.l Keep a time journal. You can use a calendar with each hour broken down where you just fill it in. Keep it for a week. I guarantee you, you will be surprised at where it all goes.
We waste way more than we think. We have to be intentional with our time. We have to prioritize it so it all counts.
The way I see it, if Oprah WInfrey, Jeff Bezos can make billions with 24 hours I can probably do a lot more than I am doing right now with my time. What about you?
We can choose how to spend our time.
Time flies. We can’t get this time back.
